For centuries, gold has played a central role in Sudan\u2019s history, economy, and society, and it continues to shape the country\u2019s landscapes and way of life to this day. Nevertheless, there has yet to be a comprehensive historical study of the development of gold mining in the regions that make up present-day Sudan.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two-volume book project <em>*Gold Mining in Sudan*<\/em> aims to fill this research gap and trace the history of gold mining from the 4th millennium B.C. to the present. Drawing on archaeological, historical, and interdisciplinary research, the project aims to examine the changing forms of resource extraction, imperial expansion, local forms of appropriation and resistance, as well as the social, economic, and environmental consequences of gold mining. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Volume 1 (<em>Historiography<\/em>) will provide a chronological, long-term perspective on the history and historiography of gold mining.
