The project examines the restitution of colonial archives from Benin and develops the idea of a digital portal for the systematic recording, preservation and communication of these holdings. The restitution of colonial archives is seen as a central contribution to the restoration of cultural and historical identity and at the same time plays an important role for scientific research and the socio-economic development of the countries concerned. Against the backdrop of archives scattered around the world as a result of colonialism, the study analyzes how a digital, user-centered portal can strategically support this process. Quantitative and qualitative methods and a human-centered design approach are used to evaluate the design and impact of the portal. Finally, the study discusses theoretical and practical implications and provides impulses for future research.
