In the “Afrikaviertel” neighborhood of Cologne-Nippes, a decolonial memorial site is to be created that will shed light on the neighborhood’s colonial past and encourage critical engagement with it. A planned sculpture will commemorate Rudolf and Emily Duala Manga Bell from Cameroon, and in particular Rudolf Manga Bell’s resistance to German colonial rule and his execution in 1914.
The artwork, designed and planned by Fabien Diffe Kamga, is intended to symbolize a new, critical culture of remembrance and to highlight resistance against colonial oppression and violence.
